There's no such thing as a magic bullet. If you came to this blog thinking you would see a post telling you that video is the magic bullet for your fundraising or marketing success, I'm sorry to have let you down. There's no such thing as a magic bullet.
There is, however, such a thing as a marketing tool that has been proven to be highly successful when executed properly. Video is an incredibly successful marketing tool; but, to understand what it is that makes it so incredibly successful and why it's valuable to your marketing strategy, it's important to know a few key things about video on the internet right now.
What We Know About Video Consumption On The Internet
- Each day, YouTube users watch a billion hours of video
- By 2021, 82% of internet traffic will be from video
- YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine
With video taking over the internet, it should come as no surprise that people are using video as a tool to impact their decisions - what products to purchase, what organizations to donate to, which stores to visit when they go on vacation. In fact, studies have found that 74% of millennials use video to help them make purchasing decisions. To back this up, Yellow Wood Media Solutions did its own poll and had almost the exact same results.
Additionally, a report from Vidyard and the Aberdeen Group found that companies using video saw their revenue grow 49% faster year-over-year than organizations not using video.
Perhaps the biggest take-away, though, is that if you're not meeting people where they are - watching a video - someone else is. 77% of small businesses and 82% of marketers are posting at least 2 videos per month; 41% of small businesses and 48% of marketers are posting at least 4 videos per month.
At this point, you're probably wondering what you should be doing to stay in the video marketing game so you can boost your bottom line. If you're not already using video as a marketing tool, it's not too late to start doing so. A great way to start is with a simple video about your company. Another avenue to take is to find about 3 things in your business that you'd like to get a message out about and create a video around those. For example:
- Do you need more employees?
- Are you promoting a new product?
- Do you have an event coming up?
- Are you launching a new campaign or doing a special donor appeal?
- Do you have a great testimonial about your product or service?
If you are already using video, that's awesome! Here are a few ideas you could use to take your video marketing efforts to the next level and push you ahead of your competition:
- A monthly tips/advice video series
- A fun, new promo video
- A "behind-the-scenes" video of your organization
- A series of stories about people whose lives you have impacted
- A collection of cinemagraphs
